    A Few New Things.

    Posted by twit2knit on April 20, 2011

I finished my Shalom cardigan, the pattern is by Meghan McFarlane and can be found here. I used  roughly 3 balls of  Elle Pure Gold Chunky in colourway 50 (blue) and 7mm needles. It was a very quick knit and the pattern is so easy to follow and/or adjust.

I took a while to find the right buttons, I eventually got them from a shop on  Ebay called Textile Garden.

I also made myself a new shawl, Zetor Scarf by Jatta Saukko. I had some sock yarn I’d dyed a while ago but was a bit ambivilent about the colour, this is what it looked like in the beginning:

I wanted something with a bit more depth to the colour, so I over-dyed using Procion dye in deep purple ( I will get better pictures tomorrow) I adore the new colour, it’s now deep purple and wine.

I used 4.5mm(US7)needles. The pattern was easy to follow and quick to knit up. The only problem is that the instructions don’t say how to bind off. After just binding off loosly I found there wasn’t enough give to get the points I wanted so I’m going to unpick the bind off. I’ll then use the lacy bind off, for those that don’t know it here you are:

K2, *insert LH needle through front of two sts on RH needle and k them together, K1, rep from *

    Hope that helps.

So long since I last posted eeep!

    Posted by twit2knit on April 7, 2011

I can not believe it has been so long since I last posted, usual excuse life just got in the way blugh!

So what have I been up to I hear you ask? Well let me tell you, I’ve started so many projects only to realise I wasn’t in love with them as much as I thought I was and have since frogged them. I hate frogging as it annoys me that I’ve spent time working on them in the first place only to realise I not really that keen on them.

So, on to the things I have completed:

First up is a crochet bag, I didn’t follow a pattern for this one. I still had some of the  Donegal silk tweed left over from the Cobblestone I made for my dad and decided I wanted to use it for something, so a crochet bag it was to be. With the aran weight yarn and a 4.5mm(US 7) hook I just winged it and came up with this –

I added a huge white button for the closure. Will have to see if I can get a better picture, but I do like the bag and it holds so much stuff.

Next up is a balaclava I made to keep the neck warm without running the risk of getting a scarf caught in anything. The pattern is by Nanette Blanchard and is free, always a bonus. For this I used about 1.5 balls of Rico Design Kids Classic Aran in colour 015 Stone with 4.5mm(US7) and 5mm(US8) dpn’s. It was a very quick knit and used a lot less yarn than I thought it would.

Last but not least, I made another shawl. Azzu’s Shawl by Emma Fassio, I used Robin British Courtelle Double Knit 100g and 4mm(US6) needles. This was a quick simple knit, although due to yardage issues I did omit rows 105 through 116.

The last picture shows the true colours.

I’ve another shawl blocking right now, as soon as that’s done I’ll take some pictures and let you all see. Also great news, I heard about a new yarn shop right here in Manchester, Purl City Yarns. Going to take a trip tomorrow and blow the bank balance 🙂

    Finished Square Shawl.

    Posted by twit2knit on July 4, 2009

Yes with a whole week left I managed to get the Christening Shawl finished, I am so pleased with it. My first attempt at a square shawl, the first time I’d put patterns together and the first time I’d added a lace design of my own, to anything.

I just hope the recipiant loves it as much as I do.

I was a little worried it wasn’t going to be big enough but it’s about 65×65 inches so will be plenty big enough for a baby.

My daughter is going to drop it off for me tomorrow, I’ll let you know what is said about it.

    Update on the Christening Shawl

    Posted by twit2knit on June 28, 2009

This needs to be finished by July 11th.

I’m doing 6 repeats of Pam Allen’s Little Arrowhead Shawl, then I knit 5 rows plain and start a lace pattern of my own design for 33 rows and then do the border from Renee Leverington’s peasant Shawl.

Hopefully it’ll be big enough for a 10 month old baby.

The cross design is my own, It may not be the best but it’s the first bit of lace I’ve designed myself and so far I’m really pleased with it. I’ve now started on the border and have noticed that each round is now realllly long 🙂

I’m so looking forward to finisheing this so I can block it and see it in it’s true beauty.

    Christening Shawl (square)

    Posted by twit2knit on June 8, 2009

My eldest daughter has been asked to be Godmother to her 10 month old baby cousin, the baptism will be July 12th. I’ve offered to make a shawl for the baby. So I’ve decided as I’ve only a month I’ll be using a 4ply yarn with 4.5mm (US7) needles.

I’ll be following Elizabeth Zimmermann’s Square Shawl from the Knitter’s Almanac month of February, just have to figure out some lace patterns for it. Any and all suggestions gratefully welcome 🙂

This is my yarn, hopefully it’ll arrive by tomorrow.
