    Procrastinate much?

    Posted by twit2knit on August 4, 2011

I’ve been working on a seemless cardigan called Gaia by Kristen TenDyke, it’s a very quick knit and the pattern is well written. For some reason I’ve been putting off doing the button bands, yes that’s all I’ve left to do, oh and the weaving in and sewing on buttons and blocking but almost all the actual knitting is done.

I thought if I posted here about it, it may actually spur me on to complete this cardigan, one can only hope that is the case.

I’ve used Robin Aran with wool in colour graphite and size 5mm(US8) needles.

Seen how I was procrastinating with Gaia, I decided to cast on for a pattern that’s been in my queue for an age.  Angela Sixian Wu’s Three Tams, I did tam A. I used Robin DK and King Cole Baby Comfort DK, with 3.5mm(US4) and 4mm(US6) needles. Now this was a real quick knit and so satisfying, looks way more complicated than it is. The only snag was the pattern omitted a detail about the decreases, before starting each decrease round, move the last completed stitch from the previous round back to the left needle. The moved stitch becomes the 1st stitch of the decrease round. Jennichrys on Ravelry, thank you for the explanation.

    Diamond Scarf

    Posted by twit2knit on July 21, 2011

Finished a new scarf, this is for me. It’s a simple diamond lace design and I’ve even uploaded the pattern for anybody that wants it. I used 5mm(US8) needles and 1.5 skeins of Rico Design Kids Classic Aran. I did 18 repeats of the pattern as that’s how much yarn I had. I would have prefered to do 20-25 repeats, although my scarf did turn out to be 7inches wide and 40 inches long so it’s still good for me as I’m quite short.

This pattern can be made any width and any length and is both written and charted, please feel free to share any finished items you’ve made from my designs as I’d love to see them.

    A new hat.

    Posted by twit2knit on April 29, 2011

Easter weekend we went to Ullswater in Cumbria, camping. As you can imagine it was wonderful and the area itself is stunning. One down side is by God does it get cold at night brrr.

I took my Shroom with me and it did a great job but I wanted something to cover my ears better. I found it in Adela Illichmanova’s Capucine. A lovely hat, well written pattern and it knitted up real fast.

I used Teddy Andora Chunky in pink and 5mm(US8) circs, this gave me quite a dense fabric. If I make this hat again I think I’ll use either 5.5mm(US9) or 6mm(US10) needles. Just waiting for next time we go camping (hopefully spring bank holiday at the end of May) so I can wear it.

    A simple Touchpad Pattern

    Posted by twit2knit on April 20, 2011

I have one of those touchpad things, nothing too big, probably the same size as a Kindle (approx 7/8 inches in size), what does any touchpad need, a knitted cover of course.

Using an aran yarn (I used Robin Aran with Wool) and 4.5mm(US7) needles co 38 stitches.

Knit all rows untill piece measures 6.5/7 inches

K2, p2 for 4 rows, bind off in pattern.

sew bottom and side, that’s it. Took me less than an hour.

Or you could make it in the round.

Co 36, Join being careful not to twist your stitches.

    K2, p2 for 4 rnds

(For garter stitch look) k1 rnd, p1 rnd until reached desired length.

(For stocking stitch look) Knit all rounds till desired length.

Using 3 needle technique, bind off.

    Weave in ends.

For those of you new to 3 needle bind off, information is here and here.

    A Few New Things.

    Posted by twit2knit on April 20, 2011

I finished my Shalom cardigan, the pattern is by Meghan McFarlane and can be found here. I used  roughly 3 balls of  Elle Pure Gold Chunky in colourway 50 (blue) and 7mm needles. It was a very quick knit and the pattern is so easy to follow and/or adjust.

I took a while to find the right buttons, I eventually got them from a shop on  Ebay called Textile Garden.

I also made myself a new shawl, Zetor Scarf by Jatta Saukko. I had some sock yarn I’d dyed a while ago but was a bit ambivilent about the colour, this is what it looked like in the beginning:

I wanted something with a bit more depth to the colour, so I over-dyed using Procion dye in deep purple ( I will get better pictures tomorrow) I adore the new colour, it’s now deep purple and wine.

I used 4.5mm(US7)needles. The pattern was easy to follow and quick to knit up. The only problem is that the instructions don’t say how to bind off. After just binding off loosly I found there wasn’t enough give to get the points I wanted so I’m going to unpick the bind off. I’ll then use the lacy bind off, for those that don’t know it here you are:

K2, *insert LH needle through front of two sts on RH needle and k them together, K1, rep from *

    Hope that helps.
